You were not born with a dislike for broccoli.
Nor did you decide it. You didn’t wake up one morning and go, I am choosing today to never like broccoli. It doesn’t work like that.
Everything in your life that reaps a negative response in you is because of some conditioned response, some learning that happened – you got sick on broccoli – and this is true of all of the negative responses that you have.
If you don’t like redheads, if you don’t like the color pink, if you don’t like to go to the wilderness, if you don’t like a certain kind of people in a certain kind of race, it’s not because you were born that way. You learned it.
Now I’ve always found that people who have these repulsions, these negative responses, feel like they’re stuck. They can’t change them. Not so.
If you can take what I’m saying today, to heart, recognize that anything that comes up that’s negative inside of you is something that you can change.
You weren’t born that way. You have to do the work. You may have to get some help.
But you can change it. The first step? Don’t be a victim.
Do not be a victim of your own responses. Otherwise, you are stuck.
If you take that negative response and say I learned it, then you can choose.
You can choose to keep it or you can choose to change it.
