About Joann Truby – A Coach for Life and Business

by | Sep 16, 2025 | About Truby Achievements, Coaching and Consulting

For over four decades, Joann Truby has helped individuals achieve greater success in both their professional and personal lives. She has helped hundreds of clients become confident leaders, build stronger relationships, and enjoy more fulfilling careers. But her journey to becoming a trusted coach didn’t start in a boardroom — it began on the skating rink.

From Champion Athlete to World-Class Coach

As a young athlete, Joann trained with discipline and focus as a competitive roller skater. Her dedication paid off — she became a national champion and was even considered as a potential delegate to the Olympics when roller skating was being reviewed as a competitive sport.

Those years gave Joann two things that still define her today:

  • First-hand experience with world-class coaching, learning how powerful it can be when someone believes in you and helps you reach your potential.
  • The self-discipline and resilience to pursue ambitious goals and never settle for less than her best.

When she retired from competition, Joann passed on what she had learned by becoming a sought-after coach herself, training athletes who wanted to follow in her footsteps.

Expanding Her Coaching to Fitness and Wellness

Joann’s coaching gift didn’t stop with athletes. She soon expanded into the fitness industry, becoming a personal trainer and coach to leaders, creatives, and well-known professionals in the Napa Valley.

Her clients included notable individuals such as Kathryn Trefethen of Trefethen Winery and renowned designer Walter Landor, whose creative genius shaped the branding of companies like Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Cotton Inc., GE, Fuji Film, Saturn, Miller Lite, Alitalia, and 20th Century Fox.

Joann’s ability to bring out the best in others quickly earned her a reputation: she wasn’t just a coach for physical training — she was a coach for life.

Coaching Beyond the Individual

As Joann’s career grew, she realized that the same principles that made athletes and individuals successful could be applied to teams and organizations. She began working with groups, helping them improve communication, strengthen collaboration, and create healthier workplace cultures.

Her coaching evolved into a blend of personal growth and professional development — not just helping clients feel more fulfilled, but equipping them to lead and succeed at work.

Co-Founder of Truby Achievements

Together with her husband, Bill, Joann co-founded Truby Achievements, an organization dedicated to leadership training, consulting, and coaching. While Bill focuses on organizational strategy and the Truby Management System, Joann continues to bring her unique gift of one-on-one coaching to individuals and leaders alike.

Even today, with decades of experience behind her, Joann still carves out time for her passion: personal and professional coaching. Her style is practical, results-oriented, and deeply supportive. Clients often say she has a way of seeing straight to the heart of the matter — and helping them move forward with clarity and confidence.

The Heart of Joann’s Work

What makes Joann’s coaching unique is her whole-person approach. She knows that personal and professional growth are inseparable — challenges in one area often spill into the other. That’s why her clients walk away not only with new tools for leadership, but also with stronger relationships, less stress, and more balance in their daily lives.

For Joann, coaching isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about lasting change that continues to grow long after the coaching sessions are done.
